Law firms merge

A Michigan law firm with a local presence is continuing to grow.

Detroit-based Clark Hill, which has a Grand Rapid office, said this week it has merged with Dallas-based Strasburger & Price, effective yesterday, to create a firm with more than 650 attorneys in offices in the U.S., Ireland and Mexico.

“Strasburger’s core values and culture are well aligned with ours, and its commitment to the highest levels of client and community service is just as strong,” said John Hern, CEO, Clark Hill. “This merger aligns perfectly with our strategy of expanding into high-growth markets, which is also where our clients are moving and where they need our services.”

Clark Hill has 450 lawyers in 17 offices, while Strasburger & Price has 200 lawyers in nine offices.

The combined firm’s offices will be named Clark Hill, except in Texas where those offices will be called Clark Hill Strasburger.

Clark Hill specializes in business, government and public affairs and offers personalized legal services to clients in the U.S. and Dublin.

The merger allows Clark Hill to expand its legal portfolio in the energy, oil and gas, construction, retail, tax and the health care sectors in Texas, where Strasburger has offices in Austin, Beaumont, Frisco, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

The combination will also be beneficial for Strasburger, as it will get a chance to strengthen its national resources in more U.S. “financial and business centers.”

“Both firms already have deep regional roots and together have a national reach in the key industries and practices driving the global economy,” said Daniel Butcher, managing partner, Strasburger. “This combination will expand our ability to help clients take advantage of business opportunities and resolve their legal challenges.”

In 2013, Clark Hill merged with Thorp Reed & Armstrong, welcoming 100 attorneys.

The firm also merged with Morris Polich & Purdy in 2017, adding 100 lawyers and four offices in California and Nevada.
