2 firms buy downtown Beaumont lot from city

A law firm and an engineering firm acquired a vacant lot Tuesday from the city of Beaumont that could be used for the expansion of either entity or for a new business, according to a spokesman for the partnership.

Scot Sheldon, a lawyer with the Moore Landrey firm, said the lot, which cost $63,000, “made sense for us to acquire … because it adjoins our other properties.”

“We’re hoping to expand,” he said.

Moore Landrey occupies the first floor of 905 Orleans St. and LJA Engineering has offices on the second floor. Moore Landrey also has an office at 967 Orleans.

The lot is bounded on the south by the KCS railroad tracks and on the east by the Beaumont police department’s parking lot. The lot is about 14,400 square feet.

City Council accepted the bid unanimously.
