Largest law firms in the Triangle (Slideshow)

This week’s list showcases the legal industry, one of the most visible disciplines in the Triangle.

The list of the largest law firms is ranked by the number of attorneys in the Triangle area and also includes the number of local partners, support staffers and paralegals. Areas of practice and the local managing partner(s) are also included in the list.

Changes from last year’s list include the November merger of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice LLP with U.K.-based Bond Dickinson LLP. The result of the merger is Womble Bond Dickinson LLP. The list also features several new names in the local office managing partner slots. Newcomers to that position include Daniel Cahill at Poyner Spruill; Beth Jones at Womble Bond; and Patricia Bartis at Parker Poe.

Triangle Business Journal also asked firms to provide the number of female attorneys in the Triangle. The top two firms, according to that metric, were Womble Bond Dickinson, with 37, and Smith Anderson, with 33. The same two firms reported the most local racial minority attorneys as well: Smith Anderson, with 11, and Womble Bond, 7.
