(PRWeb) – Lori G. Cohen, who chairs the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice and the Trial Practice Group at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, was chosen by The National Law Journal as one of its Winning Litigators 2016. According to the publication, which featured Cohen in a special section published Dec. 5, she was selected based on her role in a recent two-month pelvic mesh trial that resulted in a complete defense verdict.
Cohen secured the defense win in February 2016 on behalf of Greenberg Traurig client C.R. Bard Inc., in Sherrer v. Boston Scientific, et al., Case Number 1216-CV27879, in the 16th Judicial Circuit of Missouri. The National Law Journal feature noted that the jury trial took place in a traditionally plaintiff-friendly venue. In addition to Cohen, key trial team members included Shareholder Cliff Merrell and associates Marcella C. Ducca, Sean Jessee, and Sara Deskins Tucker, as well as co-counsel Robert Adams and Hildy Sastre, partners at Shook, Hardy & Bacon.
Lori is a tireless advocate for her clients and this victory and the dozens of others that came before it are a true testament to that. As always, she was able to effectively explain incredibly complex materials to the jury and convince them that her client was not at fault, said Philip R. Sellinger, co-chair of the firms Global Litigation Practice.
It is no surprise that Lori was selected for this honor, said Alan Mansfield, co-chair of the firms Global Litigation Practice. She is a trial lawyer of the highest caliber, and her ability to win over a jury in any setting is an incredible asset to her clients.
Greenberg Traurig serves as national coordinating counsel and trial counsel for C.R. Bard, a Fortune 500 medical device manufacturer of womens health products, in the national and international pelvic mesh litigation. The Sherrer trial began on Nov. 30, 2015, and the jury began deliberations on Feb. 1, 2016. On the afternoon of Feb. 2, 2016, the jury announced a complete defense verdict for C.R. Bard and co-defendant Boston Scientific. This was the first pelvic mesh trial to involve two different manufacturers and the first in Missouri state court. The plaintiff requested $28 million in compensatory damages, claiming that the companies` pelvic mesh implants rendered her incontinent and suffering from pain and other ailments. The plaintiff also sought punitive damages against both defendants.
Cohen has a national litigation practice focusing on product liability litigation and specifically, medical device and pharmaceutical litigation. She is widely recognized for her trial skills, and the Sherrer verdict is her 57th defense verdict at trial. Cohen has also been selected as a Law360 2016 Trial MVP, a Law360 2015 “Trial Ace,” and a Law360 2012 “Top Female Trial Attorney. She has been recognized by The National Law Journal as one of “The 50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America.” She has also been recognized by Georgia Super Lawyers magazine as one of its “Top 10 Georgia Super Lawyers” for the last four years, and one of the “Top 100 Georgia Super Lawyers” and “Top 50 Female Georgia Super Lawyers” for the last 12 years. Cohen was one of a very small group of attorneys selected nationally for inclusion in the 2010-2016 editions of Chambers and Partners USA Guide`s National Pharmaceutical Industry Products Liability Table.
