Washington, D.C.- Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statement on the Government Accountability Office’s report suggesting that the Obama administration is ignoring federal law and illegally sending payments to health insurers instead of to the Treasury as required by Obamacare:

‘Yesterday’s GAO report confirmed what we have long known: the Obama administration’s decision to steer funds allocated to the Treasury to insurance firms is illegal. The plain language of the law states that a portion of funds collected through the reinsurance program must be deposited to the Treasury Department. Rather than follow the law, the Obama administration treated taxpayer dollars as a political slush fund in a failed attempt to salvage the failing Obamacare exchanges. The administration’s willingness to violate the law to prop up Obamacare’s exchanges is more evidence that Obamacare is imploding and should be repealed and replaced.’
