Not all of Dallas’ law firms are headed to new digs in Uptown.
Cozen O’Connor, which has offices in 25 cities, decided to stay in downtown’s Comerica Bank Tower after looking at other options.
Cozen O’Connor has been a tenant in the Main Street skyscraper since 1998.
After shopping potential locations in the area, Cozen O’Connor will move to new offices within Comercia Bank Tower, shifting its operations from the 34th to the 31st floor.
“The new space is designed to incorporate the things today’s law firms are looking for in their office environment,” Mike Gosslee of Cushman & Wakefield said in a statement. Gosslee negotiated the lease with Mike Silliman with building owner M-M Properties.
Cozen O’Connor is the third recent tenant to extend leases at Comerica Bank Tower. Southwest Media Group and HighGround Advisors also signed new leases in the building.
The 60-story high-rise at 1717 Main was designed by renowned architect Philip Johnson. The tower recently underwent the most significant upgrades since it was built in the 1980s.
Several major Dallas law firms in the last few years have relocated to newer buildings in the Uptown area north of downtown Dallas.
Law firms now occupy more than 1.6 million square feet of office space in the Uptown market, compared to more than 2.8 million square feet of downtown offices that are used by legal firms, according to commercial property firm CBRE.
